Just Do It

So as long as Nike doesn’t sue me for borrowing their slogan, this post is dedicated to ACTION!

Over the past month I’ve probably taken more actions than I did all last year. Ok that’s a bit extravagant, but seriously it’s been ‘hustle hard’ to bring my passion for #GameOn Leadership to life. I’ve met tons of incredible people and learned so many new things about myself, others, and even what I’m developing.

What’s amazing is that every action has either lead to an opportunity or taught me something new. Even the ones that many (especially myself in the past) would see as a ‘failure’, I’ve started to learn from these and figure out clues in how to make this idea work. While it hasn’t been easy, it’s certainly been worth it.

There’s some magic that seems to accompany open and honest actions in the direction of your choice. What most fail to do is take the action. The sneaky “what if” pops up and starts to build reasons that hold you back like, “What if it isn’t worth it?” “What if I don’t like it?” “What if I screw up?” … and on and on. Check this though… what if you flip that “what if”? What if it became “What if this is something I really love to do?” “What if I meet some really great people?” “What if this leads me to some new opportunities?” “What if I can have a lot of impact on others?” … While you’re mind may battle you on looking at the actions this way, just remember neither exists until you take the action, and whichever you go into the action thinking is usually the one you’ll end up finding answers for.

The beauty of actions is the more you start taking them, the more they become easier to take. It’s like riding a bike. I still remember slamming into a tree the first time (ouch.. hurts even remembering that!) but now that seems like nothing but a joke to look back on! Every action breaks down the element of FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real).

With all this said, every so often I’m committed to sharing some cool opportunities for actions that might be of interest to some of you! Here’s one that’s being hosted by an incredible team I’ve come to know recently…

Imagine within a few hours you can give youth a chance to see the world from a very different perspective?

That’s the aim of the upcoming Water for the World campaign being hosted by Engineers Without Borders (Toronto Chapter). These Water for the World presentations will help students learn about clean drinking water access and global distribution issues with a fun filter-making and simulation activity.

This is a must if you are interested in: Youth Engagement, Global Issues, Environmental Issues
