Life is Hard

“Life is hard.” We here it so often, but still take it for granted. It’s a fact, not an option. No matter what you do in life, this is one cliché that you will always run into if you’re doing something worthwhile. But…

For all the people who have done great things, are doing great things, and will do great things; there is one simple thing that sets them apart… they don’t see it this way. Although in reality life might be hard, it is their perspective of life that makes all the difference. They see problems as challenges; impossible as opportunity; and hard as fun. They don’t dwell on the fact that life is hard, nor do they let it bring them down… they accept it and move on.

It’s been six months since we’ve embarked on this journey; still six months to go. Although I may have had it hard 5000 miles away, in my opinion it’s been even harder for you all back home. For me change was not an option. I was placed in a world unknown and faced with a task bigger than I’ll ever be; if I didn’t change, you probably would have seen me in person by now. However, for everyone back home, your environment stayed the same, life went on, routines continued; but amidst all the distractions, it’s YOU who have been faced with the choice to change. A change that will certainly not happen overnight, and may have not happened after six months. But the question still remains, what did you choose?

My advice to you… Yes change is hard, but don’t look it that way. Look at it as a way for you to stop being a product of your environment and make your environment a product of you. Perceive it as something better in the end, not difficult in the beginning. Focus on what’s at hand, not the hardships life hands you. Tell yourself you can do it, even when you think you can’t. Try something different… take a step, heck a leap, outside your comfort zone and see where it takes you… take the path less travelled, or why not make the path often travelled a lot more fun! You see ‘hard’ can place all kinds of obstacles, problems, and dilemmas in front of you… but it can never prevent you from what you choose.

So whatever your choice or whatever you choose, when challenging yourself to change…
what do you really have to lose?
